Handburger!

Handburger @ Raffles City

That is one place me and Rui Chin wondered to in an afternoon after a boring visit to the NUS career fair.

We ordered a set of three mini burgers (they called it sliders). There's only 2 in the pic because we remembered to take a pic after tucking into 1. Oopz. One beef burger, one fish burger and one pork burger. Variety!

From another angle :) We were in love with 'em coz they looked so cute and yummy.

My minty lychee. Green blended mint leaves and lychee bits in crushed ice. Funky and oh so refreshing!

Me pretending that the food sucks. (NOT true at all) Oh if you look at the right hand corner, you will see the caesar salad. Yeah, we try to be healthy, responsible adults.

*photos are courtesy of Rui Chin! So, thank you!!

Soenke made me eat expired jam

Good morning Sunday! The last day of February! I am so starved when I woke up and was desperate for breakfast. I toasted some bread and rummaged around for something to go with that. There was nothing!

So I asked Soenke if we have jam. He looked through the pantry and gave me a jam. I checked the expiry date and it was July 2009!! He said it smelled and looked perfect and I will never die from that.

Well here we go, my first bite of expired (7 months expired, note that) plum jam on toast. If you did not hear from me again and came across this blog post, you know why.

Happy (nervous) Sunday

Pretzel tasting Fluffy Pancakes

I had the responsibility of making breakfast this morning as Soenke is suffering from a broken wrist. With the inspiration to have fluffy pancakes and a recipe for that, I started work.

Using 2 non-stick pans, I made the pancakes at record speed. Half starved we tuck into our pancakes, heavily drizzled with maple syrup. Few moments after Soenke said "Why does it taste like pretzel?" I definitely don't deny this but I am confused. How can a recipe rated with 5 stars and 3000 over reviews produce such a funny tasting mixture? For sure I was hesitating over its requirement for so much baking soda but I had gone ahead and follow the recipe to the dot based on the 5 stars rating.

Well, after this I would never trust a recipe based on its rating. It may be a degree of measurement but will never trust it 100% anymore. But for those who want to take a look at the recipe, it is here.

:(

Nice to look at, too weird to eat

Creamy~

30 minutes ago, fresh out of the shower, I had went on mechanically to apply the usual cream and lotions on myself before suddenly realising, I have a lot of creams for different functions!

I felt baffled with what I have been doing routinely these days after showers. It just happens so automatically and without consciously occurring in my head. Here is how it would go:

Walk into room. Apply facial cream on face, rub rub dub dub. Oh look, the sunburn from Phuket is still red. Grab aloe vera gel and apply gently on my sun-damaged skin. Dry legs with towel and legs felt a bit dry and itchy. Reached out for intensive body lotion, squeeze out a dollop and apply over both legs. Ohh.. dry itchiness is replaced with smoothness. Look into mirror and thought "Oh yeah, there's my neck scar from surgery", grab scar cream and rub cream generously over scar. Started to scratch my left arm and wondered why it felt kinda itchy and bumpy. Took one look and realised that the rashes, courtesy of the German winter, is acting up a bit again. Reached out and searched for soothing medical anti-eczema cream, squeeze and apply. Ahh, relief.

So this is it. My creamy routine is now done and I can feel free to do whatever I want next. I am just so weird. Creamy weird.

Phuket, Siam!

Six days! That was how long we were at Phuket. Personally I feel six days is a bit too much for Phuket.. Nonetheless it was a nice trip and I will allow pictures to tell the story.
My first breakfast in Phuket! Complimentary breakfast from the Club Coconut Resort (where we stayed)

 Our room

The other side of our basic room. It costed us roughly S$40+ per night. Not cheap compared to some places but the cheapest we could find from AirAsia's website.

The view from our room. We got pool view but as the pool is green, it is completely not usable. The owner had some problems fixing it while we were there. Nonetheless, the view provided us some entertainment one evening with 2 fellow stayers as the main focus of the pool romance. Hohoho!

We wondered whats the best way to get around. Solution: on a rented motorbike. Soenke's first time driving a motorbike. Pat pat. A bike costs 200Baht a day to rent and a short tuk tuk ride from our hotel to Patong Beach is 100Baht one way and (20-30 mins walk away by foot). Go figure. We "put put" our way to the few famous beaches around Phuket and the rest of the sights.

Me and my new shades. It's on top of my head.

Lunch at the Deutsche Kneipe. Schnitzel schnitzel ...

Another type of schnitzel (hehehe)

Gradient blue waters of Phuket.  I took this photo at the footsteps of a beach bar cum restaurant. People were relaxing the afternoon away with bottles of beer and seafood.

I like how they mix concrete with sea shells. The round white thing in the middle by the way is a golf ball.

A stroll along the beach

How can a trip to Thailand be complete without eating the local cuisine!? Stir fried minced meat with basil leaves and iced Thai milk tea "Cha Yen"

Shrimp paste fried rice set. It is obvious from the plates and the cup that we had our meal at Tesco Lotus. Yea, that is where you can find a foodcourt selling yummy food at good prices.

Thai stir-fry with rice and fried egg. We got this from Food Haven, another foodcourt, that features food from all parts of Thailand.

Pad Thai (Thai style fried noodles) - Must fulfill Thai food quota!!

Dessert - Mango Sticky Rice (Of course!!)

Patong Beach. It is a long beach completely filled with people. When I first step on to the beach, I had a flashback of a picture of a packed Hawaiian beach. Same same, but different.

Jungceylon, a shopping mall in Patong. This ship is part of the attraction there together with musical fountains.

James Bond Island.
